SLEEPLESS OVER CAROLYN (eBook)

When should a lad give up? Determined to win the hearts of the girls he adored, he went to greater lengths; did almost everything, and suffered consequences!

Busara attends a public ‘baraza’ presided over by a tough-talking senior, female government official. He forced his 14 year old son to accompany him and advises him to pay close attention to the lady, but why? Busara has a long story- which he delivers around a bonfire, under a starry sky, later. Pouring out his heart in a chilling tale, he shares a near-suicidal encounter of an obsessed fifteen-year-old boy desperately courting Carolyn-a beautiful abstinence believer, in an environment where teenage-romance was scoffed at.

As the only school-going children from their village, the boy is convinced he had all rights to Carolyn and rejection isn’t an acceptable outcome. He employs every means possible trying to entice the village queen; the last trick nearly killed him! Carolyn resists his advances, pursues her education further and ends up becoming a very important person beyond their village. How much can a lad do to win the heart of the girl he loves? When should he stop?

THE UNKNOWN MAN

Parakuo, an obedient servant, drives into an unusual traffic-jam, with taxis speeding away in the opposite lane, early in the morning. He patiently steers his car in the snarl-up, determined to report on duty. On a T-junction ahead he discovers the cause: Lomeni, a slum dweller, has been hit and left for the dead on the road by a speeding vehicle that didn’t stop. Parakuo is touched by his suffering; he pulls up beside the road and walk back to offer a hand. A by-stander, a taxi driver, warns him to keep off.

Lomeni writhes on the ground in dire need of a doctor’s attention. If he dare put him in his car and head to the nearest hospital, the police will come for him-or so the by-stander had warned. A decision to defy the warning becomes the opener of a can of worms, leaving him wondering if he was actually on the wrong!

With an understanding house girl beside her, live within the house is livable-to some degree at least. But another danger lurks somewhere in the dark; something every child in their estate dreads and prays never to encounter.

On a wet, stormy night, Clementia, Juliana’s step-mother, runs out of a vital medicine-an inhaler for suppressing asthmatic attacks. She collapses and slowly drifts away, unable to breath. Coincidentally; Melissa, the house girl, is absent and Clementia’s mobile phone is password protected. A chemist sits just across the street. Juliana can dash through the rains for the drug except that a notorious Hyena, roaming their streets, has been mercilessly killing donkeys and dogs. Her choices are limited: face-off with the predator or stay in the safety of the house and watch the cruel step-mother die.
